Data Science Master’s Program, 5 Universities which do not require GRE for admissions
A Data Science job is the most in-demand job. Some say it is one of the sexiest jobs out there. And it is paying big bucks. As we move on to a more technologically advanced world, the need for more facts and analysis is demanded by most industries. We now have the capacity to analyze so-called “big data” and arrive at better decisions and conclusions.
Any industry, especially business, is always handling information and they need experts to interpret it. Businesses pay top dollar to data scientists who can come up with analysis and conclusions based on statistics and other evidence. Businesses need the information to improve customer relations, come up with new products or to strategize on their next level expansion. 73% percent of Data Scientists have a master’s degree since specialized knowledge is required in upper-level positions.
If you want to take your career to the next level investing in a master’s degree in Data Science is a good move. You will increase your job opportunities in this field and you will be among the most in-demand professionals there is. Getting into grad school, however, requires you to overcome some hurdles and one of the toughest is the GRE.
Most people would go to great lengths to prepare for the GRE going as far as to enroll in preparatory classes. If you are already a professional you know you have the experience and capabilities to make it in an advanced academic degree. If you don’t want the hassle, there are great universities out there with good programs in Data Science and they don’t require that you subject yourself to any standardized test.
1. University of North Carolina Wilmington- North Carolina
Course Description
The Master of Data Science is a professional interdisciplinary program that emphasizes computational-based applications of traditional data analysis methods and current trends in data mining and machine learning to turn data into information, and information into insight.
Admission Requirements
Admissions decisions are based upon the examination of several factors and, where other indicators of success warrant, individuals who fall below the established criterion in one of the areas may be considered for admission. Such individuals may be required to take additional course work to remove deficiencies or may be required to demonstrate proficiency in certain areas.

2. Tufts University- Boston, Massachusetts
Course Description
The M.S. in Data Science is a program that may be completed in as little as one year of study, or at a student’s own pace. Prerequisites for the M.S. in Data Science include a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, including Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Applicants with bachelor’s degrees in non-STEM fields can begin study with a Certificate in Data Science that, in an additional term or year, gives the applicant a sample of the program.
Admission Requirements
GRE not required for current Tufts undergraduates applying to the M.S. degree program. GRE scores may be waived for part-time students with five years of industry experience who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

3. Johns Hopkins University- Baltimore, Maryland
Course Description
The rigorous curriculum focuses on the fundamentals of computer science, statistics, and applied mathematics while incorporating real-world examples. With options to study online and on-site in state-of-the-art facilities at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, students learn from practicing engineers and data scientists. Graduates are prepared to succeed in specialized jobs involving everything from the data pipeline and storage, to statistical analysis and eliciting the story the data tells.
Admission Requirements
A grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the latter half of undergraduate studies. A minimum GPA of 3.0 does not guarantee admission. Particular interests and work experience will also be considered. A GRE is not required for most programs.
